New Leadership for Punjab Kings
In a significant move, the Punjab Kings have appointed Shreyas Iyer as the team’s captain ahead of the IPL 2025 season. This announcement was made by the team on Sunday night. Iyer, who was previously a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders, brings a wealth of experience and leadership skills to his new role. The Kolkata Knight Riders had a successful season last year, winning the title.
A New Era for Punjab Kings
Alongside Iyer’s appointment, the team has also given Ricky Ponting a key role. Ponting, who joined the Punjab Kings in December 2024, has been named the head coach. Ponting previously worked with the Delhi Capitals. He expressed his confidence in Iyer, stating that he has a good understanding of the game and has proven his captaincy skills. Ponting also mentioned that he has worked with Iyer before in the IPL and is looking forward to their collaboration.
Iyer’s Impressive IPL Record
Iyer has played 115 matches in the IPL, scoring 3127 runs. He has achieved 21 half-centuries in the tournament, with his highest score being 96 runs. In the previous season, Iyer scored 351 runs in 14 matches, while in IPL 2022, he scored 401 runs.
