Veteran actor and comedian Govardhan Asrani, widely known for his iconic role as the “Jailer” in the classic film ‘Sholay,’ has passed away at the age of 84. He died Monday afternoon following a period of illness.
Asrani took his last breath around 3 PM at Arogyanidhi Hospital in Mumbai’s Juhu area. He had been admitted to the hospital four days prior.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been publicly confirmed. His manager confirmed the news, stating the funeral rites were performed later the same evening.
The news of his passing and the subsequent last rites were also reported by news agencies.
