The Backstory: Fraud Allegations
So, why is there an LOC in the first place? It all goes back to a big complaint. Businessman Deepak Kothari accused Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra of fraud and cheating, involving 60 crore rupees. Kothari claims that between 2015 and 2023, the couple convinced him to put money into their company, Best Deal TV Private Limited. He alleges that these funds were then used for their personal benefit.
The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) is currently looking into this case. The LOC was issued against them during this investigation to prevent them from leaving the country.
