Shein Enhances Security Controls Amid EU Pressure

Shein, a fast-fashion company, is beefing up its product safety and quality tests. The move comes after the European Union raised concerns about possible consumer protection rule breaches.

By 2025, Shein plans to run 2.5 million safety and quality checks – a 25% jump from the previous year. It’s allocating around 14 million euros to compliance projects. The company’s also teamed up with 15 top product testing agencies, including Bureau Veritas and Intertek.

Shein’s created a “library of approved fabrics” – a list of materials that meet specific standards before designers use them. From April 2025, kids’ clothing fabrics will face extra tests to spot chemicals and flammability.

The EU’s alert flags two main issues: selling possibly unsafe products and lacking clear info for buyers. Shein has a month to respond and suggest fixes. If it doesn’t address these concerns, it might face penalties.

Shein’s trying to stay on top of EU rules and keep its customers’ trust. It’s a big deal for the company, which wants to perfect its product safety and quality.
