Shamla Hamza on Best Actress Win: ‘I Don’t Know What to Say’

Actress Shamla Hamza has expressed her profound excitement after securing the Best Actress award at the Kerala State Award 2025. The winners were announced on Monday, with Hamza recognized for her performance in the film ‘Feminichi Fatima’.

“I am very happy and excited that I received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress,” Hamza stated, sharing her immediate reaction to the prestigious honor.

‘Feminichi Fatima’ marks only her second film project. She credits her role in the film ‘1001 Nunakkal’ for opening the door to this latest opportunity. Hamza also extended her heartfelt gratitude to the entire team behind ‘Feminichi Fatima’ and its director, Fasil Muhammed.

The recognition also drew congratulations from South superstar Mammootty. Hamza was visibly moved by his message, saying, “I really don’t understand what to say. I am very happy to see his message. He just said, ‘Congratulations,’ and that’s enough for me to be happy.”

Fasil Muhammed also received significant recognition, earning the Best Debut Director award for ‘Feminichi Fatima’. The Malayalam film recently premiered in cinemas to positive reception. It garnered considerable praise during its showing at the 29th Kerala International Film Festival.

In other key categories, veteran actor Mammootty was honored with the Best Actor award for his compelling work in ‘Bramayugam’. The film ‘Manjummal Boys’ achieved notable success, taking home both Best Film and Best Director honors. Rapper Vedan was also celebrated, winning Best Lyricist for the song ‘Kuthanthram’.
