Serrano vs Taylor trilogy set for July 11 at Madison Square Garden

The highly anticipated trilogy fight between Puerto Rican boxer Amanda Serrano and Irish sensation Katie Taylor is set to take place on July 11th at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, as announced by promoters Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) on Thursday. This upcoming bout, labeled as ‘Taylor vs. Serrano 3’, will be broadcast live globally, exclusively on Netflix, marking the third chapter in one of the most intense rivalries in boxing. The two female boxing stars will face off once again in a 10-round fight for the undisputed super lightweight championship.

As Serrano, the unified world featherweight champion with a record of 47-3-1 and 31 KOs, expressed, “I promised my fans that they would see this trilogy, and I’m incredibly grateful that we can complete our journey where it all began: at the Madison Square Garden, live on Netflix for the world to see.” However, she also mentioned being disappointed that Taylor didn’t keep her word and make the trilogy a 12-round fight, similar to the men’s matches. Serrano emphasized that every time they share the ring, it’s a war, and she’s confident that July 11th will be the best fight yet, as she finally achieves the official victory she deserves.

On the other hand, Taylor, with a record of 24-1 and 6 KOs, stated that she’s 2-0 against Amanda, having won their previous two fights. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that their rivalry is very special and always delivers a spectacle. The Irish boxer also mentioned that having a trilogy is fair, given the incredible atmosphere of their first fight, and she’s sure that this time won’t be different.

Their first encounter in April 2022 made history as the first female fight to headline the Madison Square Garden, earning the title of Fight of the Year by Sports Illustrated and Event of the Year by The Ring. The rematch at the AT&T Stadium in November 2024, broadcast by Netflix, broke records with an average of 74 million viewers worldwide, becoming the most-watched female sporting event in U.S. history.

Now, Taylor and Serrano return to the Madison Square Garden, where their rivalry began, with all of Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight belts on the line. This event, promoted by MVP, sets a new financial standard for female boxers, with Taylor and Serrano receiving record-breaking purses. The 2022 fight already cemented Taylor and Serrano as the two highest-paid women in combat sports history, with seven-figure purses each.

As Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, co-founders of MVP, stated, “This is more than a fight; it’s a celebration of the unmatched talent of women in boxing.” They added that Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor have already broken barriers and inspired millions, and this third fight at the iconic Madison Square Garden will be another historic step for women’s sports. Serrano, the first athlete signed by MVP, recently announced that she has signed the first-ever lifetime contract in combat sports with the company, taking on the role of president of female boxing initiatives.

In a sport where rivalries are everything, the impending clash between Taylor and Serrano serves as a reminder of the captivating power of women’s boxing. With the world watching, these two trailblazing athletes are set to etch their names in history once again, inspiring a new generation of female boxers and leaving an indelible mark on the sport. As the countdown to July 11th begins, one thing is certain – the boxing world will be witnessing something special, a true celebration of talent, determination, and the unrelenting spirit of two boxing legends.
