Scottish Open Golf 2024: Bob MacIntyre’s Thrilling Come-from-Behind Victory at Home

Robert MacIntyre has finally won the Scottish Open, a Rolex Series tournament co-sanctioned by the PGA and DP World Tour, in a thrilling fashion. The Scottish golfer played his best golf under pressure, making an eagle at the 16th and a birdie at the 18th to sign 67 strokes in the fourth round, the same as Adam Scott, who finished one stroke behind the winner in the overall score.

Comeback of a Lifetime

MacIntyre’s victory was a comeback of a lifetime, as he came close to winning the Scottish Open last year but was robbed of glory by Rory McIlroy on home soil. This win marks a significant milestone in his career, and he can already boast of having scored two great victories this season, having won the Canadian Open in June.

Tournament Drama

The tournament changed hands throughout the day, with several players fighting for the lead. Ludvig Aberg, the Swede, was erratic and less confident, while Scott gained the advantage and became the favourite until MacIntyre’s eagle. The Australian completed his round with the Scot playing the 17th, but was denied a play-off after a magnificent putt by Bob on the 18th.

Spanish Performance

Among the Spaniards, Alejandro del Rey finished with a lap of 65, finishing 15th, while Jorge Campillo finished 26th.

Eagle on the 16th

MacIntyre’s eagle on the 16th was a turning point in the tournament. He was in an awkward position from the rough and had to hit an incredible shot to make the eagle. The shot was made possible after he tested and found that his right leg hit a sprinkler, allowing him to drop the ball.
