Santa Clara coach Vasco Matos has shifted his team’s tactical formation, moving away from a long-favored strategy to enhance adaptability on the pitch.
Matos recently deployed a 4x3x3 formation in a match against AVS, marking a significant departure from the 3x4x3 system that defined the Portuguese club’s play in recent seasons. This tactical switch was also implemented during a Portuguese Cup encounter against Sp. Espinho.
The coach stated that testing this tactical alteration had been part of his long-term plans for the team.
“We realized the start of the season wasn’t easy, and we didn’t have opportunities to train these situations,” Matos said. “We want to evolve and prepare the team for different tactical nuances, so that the players feel very comfortable.”
