Sant Cugat is crowned and Corteva Cocos rises

Excitement and high competitiveness left us the first of the Iberdrola Queen’s Cup GPS 7s Series, which was held last weekend in Arroyo de la Encomienda. First time that this town in Valladolid hosts this competition. Twelve teams fight for the title that will have two other series: Éibar (May 27 and 28) and Madrid (June 10 and 11).

The current champions, CR Sant Cugat, returned to vindicate themselves and win first place in these first GPS Queen’s Cup Iberdrola. And they did it with full victories, clearly prevailing in their six games. On day 1 victory against Industriales de las Rozas (39-0), victory against Sanse Scrum (22-10) and victory against CR Turia (31-12).

On day 2 victory against Jabatos RC (31-0), victory against Energimac Majadahonda (41-7) and victory in the final against the Sevillanas from CDU Sevilla (25-7). Next appointment next weekend in Éibar. In the Challenge, the secondary draw, nine teams were looking for a place to move up and play in the elite national club sevens. Corteva Cocos’ Sevillanas secured the promotion spot after winning the final against the Balearic team Shamrock RC (17-0).

This Monday, on the other hand, the draw for the second series of the VI edition of the GPS 7s Copa de la Reina Iberdrola took place at the headquarters of the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER). This draw was determined by the classification of the first tournament, in which Sant Cugat, University of Seville and Energimac Majadahonda, in their capacity as first, second and third classified in Arroyo de la Encomienda, were the seeds of those who have been heads from Groups A, B and C, respectively. The rest of the teams have been framed as follows in the draw. The rest of A will be made up of CR Turia, Hortaleza and Industriales; that of B, Éibar, Móstoles and Sanse; and that of C, CRAT, Cisneros and Olímpico de Pozuelo.
