Folding Phones Just Got More Interesting
Most folding phones today fold inward to protect the main screen from scratches. They also have a small screen on the cover for notifications and basic tasks. Some brands, like Huawei, fold their screens outward, which looks sleek but risks scratching the screen.
Recently, a source called @xleaks7 revealed that Samsung has patented a phone that can fold both ways. This means the screen can fold inward and outward, 360 degrees.
What’s special about this phone?
This phone doesn’t need a separate screen on the cover. The main screen can fold in and out, which makes it more versatile. Samsung has developed a special layer under the screen to make it tougher. This layer has a flexible polymer and adhesive, plus ultra-thin glass to help the screen fold both ways.
Samsung had a similar concept called “Flex In & Out” in 2023, but it never became a real product. This new patent is exciting because it combines the best of both folding worlds.
How does it work?
The phone’s screen can fold 360 degrees, which means it can fold inward to protect the screen and outward to give you more screen space. The special layer under the screen helps it fold smoothly and prevents scratches.
This new design could change the way we use folding phones. We’ll have to wait and see if Samsung turns this patent into a real product.
