Most folks use regular smartphones. The kind that are just plain rectangles. A foldable device might seem like a rich tech fan’s toy. Maybe just a fancy extra. There’s nothing wrong with that view. But grab the Galaxy Z Fold7 for a bit. The experience quickly changes everything. Soon, you will wonder how you ever managed. Going back to an old-style phone feels impossible.
This version from Samsung feels like a normal phone when closed. It only acts like a foldable when you open it up. It is light, just 215 grams. It is also thin, 4.2 mm open and 8.9mm when shut. This phone fits perfectly in your hand for everyday use. One tricky part, though, is if you’re a bit clumsy. Protecting this type of phone with a case is harder than with other models.
Still, this device is one of the toughest phones we have ever used. The hinge feels incredibly solid, building confidence. The materials used throughout also feel very consistent. These materials give off a sense of luxury. You feel it especially when the Z Fold7 is in your hands. It might not grab attention in a big crowd. But up close, it is a real treat.
When you have the phone open, it lets you work in a kind of two-in-one mode. You can run two apps at the same time. This feature is super helpful for tasks that need you to cross-reference data. You don’t waste time jumping between different applications. It really speeds things up.
The triple camera setup on the back is quite eye-catching. It performs very well for both photos and videos. However, don’t expect extraordinary results. It won’t beat models specifically designed for top-tier photography. Those phones are built with cameras as their main focus.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 truly is an amazing phone. But it does have some drawbacks. One of the biggest issues we found was its cooling. And we didn’t even use it during the hottest weeks of the year! After just a few minutes of heavy use, even when temperatures were below 30ºC, the Fold7 got extremely hot.
Another area needing improvement is the battery. Its capacity is 4400 mAh. The charging speed is 25W. It will last about a day with regular use. However, the charge drops quickly if you use it a lot. This isn’t a huge problem. Still, one might expect more from such an expensive model.
Then there’s the big issue for many people. The price tag for this phone is 2,109 euros. That is a very high amount for a lot of budgets.
