Samsung Galaxy S6 and other older models get a surprise update

Samsung is a world leader in the sale of smartphones and also assumes a prominent role in terms of the support of its equipment. Now back to the example in this chapter with a surprise update for models outside of their official support plan.

As the publication points out galactic club, the South Korean giant has just released an unexpected update for models such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy A7. More surprising is that we have a device released in 2014 among the recipients.

In total, there are four models for which Samsung has just released a new update. We have the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy A7 released in 2018, the Galaxy S5 Neo released in 2015, and the Galaxy Alpha released in 2014.

All the target models are outside Samsung’s official plans regarding its update policy. The models are already considered. ancientwithout official support and out of its useful life.

Still, Samsung found it necessary to release a new update to fix GPS connectivity issues and overall system stability. Similar fix as recently released for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8.

This update does not include any official security fixes and users need to check for it manually. To do this, go to Settings – Software Update.

Something serious must be behind the availability of this update for these smartphones ancient. Otherwise, why would Samsung update very old models in its portfolio?

Still, there are many Android users who keep their device for many years, even after official support ends. For those of you who still have a Galaxy S6, Galaxy A7 or another of the models in question, this is good news.

Samsung thus further cements its status as an example when it comes to updates to its smartphones. As a reminder, the latest models benefit from four years of important updates and five years of security updates.
