Sainz Sees Setback

Alpine takes advantage of Sainz

In the past few hours, there has been a significant development in the Formula 1 world, with Flavio Briatore returning to the helm of Alpine as an advisor and signing director. The Italian is reportedly keen on recruiting Carlos Sainz to replace Esteban Ocon, with a decision expected to be made imminently.

Alpine’s resurgence this season, despite internal conflicts, has sparked interest from Williams and Audi, which has seen strong last-minute interest from Flavio and Luca de Meo, CEO of Alpine. The team has already scored points this season, surpassing Aston Martin, and is now eyeing a potential contract with Sainz.

Flavio was spotted in the paddock on Sunday, chatting with Sainz Sr. and De Meo in informal meetings. If Alpine is unsuccessful in signing Sainz, the team may turn to Pierre Gasly, whose contract is yet to be renewed. A decision on Sainz’s future could be made within hours if Alpine is unable to secure his services.

Interestingly, Alpine is considering abandoning the Renault engine and inheriting the Mercedes engine being vacated by Aston Martin, which would switch to Honda. This move could also impact Carlos’s future, as Alpine may include an exit clause allowing him to leave if an option arises at Red Bull, given the likelihood of Verstappen or Checo exiting the team.
