Saba Azad Discusses Gender Pay Gap in Bollywood Industry and Career Journey

Actress Saba Azad is gearing up for her upcoming web series ‘Crime Beat’ alongside actor Saqib Salim on G5. While many know her as Ritik Roshan’s girlfriend, she’s carved out her own identity as a talented singer and actress. Let’s dive into Saba’s journey in the film industry.

For Saba, entering the film industry wasn’t a new experience, as she’s been acting since childhood. She notes, “I didn’t find anything new here. It has its own struggle and joy to work in every field. I came in with a lot of expectations, and I think those expectations are still inside me.” Despite the familiarity, she acknowledges the unique challenges that come with the profession.

One interesting aspect of Saba’s story is the change in her surname from Grewal to Azad. She explains, “My surname was Grewal, which is still on my passport. Azad was my grandmother’s surname, and I’ve always liked it. I asked her if I could take her name, and she happily agreed.” This personal touch adds a layer of depth to her story, showcasing the importance of family and heritage.

As an actress, Saba has likely faced her fair share of rejections. When asked about the profession being one of the highest rejections, she responds, “Maybe it happens during auditions. This often occurs during our auditions. No one suffers in any other profession as an artist tolerates daily.” Her candor highlights the harsh realities of the industry, where rejection is an inherent part of the job.

On the topic of pay disparity in the industry, Saba is vocal about her opinions. When asked what she would investigate if she were a journalist, she promptly replies, “The subject would be why women get less money than men in this industry.” This sparks an interesting conversation about the gender pay gap, a pressing issue that affects many women in the entertainment industry. Saba even shares that she would have loved to interview Fidel Castro, one of her favorite heroes, if given the chance.

Saba Azad and Saqib Salim’s web series ‘Crime Beat’ is set to stream on G5 from February 21, featuring a talented ensemble cast, including Sai Tamhankar, Danish Hussain, and Rajesh Telang, among others. As the release date approaches, fans can expect a gripping storyline and impressive performances from the cast.
