Rumor about ‘Twitter Coin’ is doing the rounds; Dogecoin holders hold out hope

SpaceX gaat dogecoin accepteren, DOGE koers stijgt

We recently reported about this; the story that Twitter is serious about developing its own cryptocurrency: the Twitter Coin. This crypto is rumored to be used for tipping on the social media platform and for other forms of payment. However, at the time of writing, these rumors have not yet been confirmed by official spokespersons for Twitter itself.

Mysterious Tweets

The rumors are mainly due to the messages from two leading tech researchers who are active on the social media platform. Nima Owji posted a screenshot online of a possible interface related to the Twitter Coin. Others point to tweets from tech researcher Jane Manchun, who retrieved code from information related to the Twitter Coin.

Manchun’s post has since been removed for unknown reasons. In fact, her entire Twitter account has mysteriously disappeared. All in all, enough reason to take the rumors about this so-called Twitter Coin seriously.

Dogecoin (DOGE) holders have long been anticipating an official engagement between Twitter and Dogecoin. Elon Musk, the brand new owner and CEO of the social media platform has been flirting since last bull run with the crypto currency. He regularly called dogecoin his favorite crypto. Musk put his money where his mouth is and already enabled payment with dogecoin for products from companies such as Tesla and The Boring Company.

One Twitter user did not believe that Musk would implement a crypto other than dogecoin on Twitter. In a tweet, he suggested that the Twitter coin is a codename would be for dogecoin. Whether this is the case, however, is debatable.

Crypto will come to Twitter

What seems certain is that Musk plans to implement crypto on the social media platform. The future will tell which crypto and how this will happen.

“It is a no brainer for Twitter to enter payments. Fiat and crypto.”

Since Musk finalized the Twitter acquisition for $ 44 billion in October, the necessary changes have already been made. Especially regarding censorship and the activity of fake accounts. Crypto-related implementations may soon follow.
