Rugby: matches between red and green teams soon banned for color blind

Rugby matches between teams in red and green jerseys can no longer take place, World Rugby said.

The international body has decided to put this in place, from the 2027 World Cup, to help color blind people. The latter suffer from a deficit in color vision. Around 300 million people are affected by color blindness worldwide.

As Le Parisien indicates, World Rugby President Bill Beaumont is himself color blind. “We hope to raise awareness and change the look through positive actions that not only tackle some of the more obvious challenges, such as shirt colors, but also take into account the whole match day experience. whether it’s orientation, digital signage, or ticketing, ”he explained.

In addition to the jerseys of the two teams, World Rugby has also targeted television coverage, equipment colors as well as stadium and ticket information.

Thus, Ireland (green) and Wales (red) will be forced to change their colors when they face each other.
