Manchester United’s disappointing 1-0 loss to Everton, which saw their opponent play much of the match with 10 men, prompted a scathing assessment from coach Ruben Amorim, who described the performance as “a step back.”
Amorim called the team’s display “really bad” and stressed a fundamental need for improvement. He told BBC Sport, “We need to do more.”
The Portuguese coach conceded that Everton was the superior side, even after playing with ten men. “Everton were the better team both with 11 and with 10 players,” Amorim stated.
He added, “We weren’t with the same intensity on the pitch. They deserved the victory.”
Amorim expressed concern over the overall feeling during the game, beyond just the final score. “Forget the result. It’s really bad but I was more worried by the feeling I had throughout the game.”
“Everyone should have played better,” he emphasized.
Amorim indicated that he would address the team’s performance with the players at their next training session. “Tomorrow we have training. I didn’t tell them anything. We’ll deal with it tomorrow,” he concluded.
