Sergio “Huevo” Rondina presented his resignation as Arsenal technical director this Sunday after Sunday’s defeat against Platense for the sixth date of the 2021 Professional League tournament.
The coach communicated his decision to the president of the club, Julio Ricardo Grondona, said sources from the Sarandí club, without specifying whether it will be accepted since the coaching staff had a contract until the end of the year. In the next few hours the resignation will be made official and on Tuesday, upon returning to practice, Rondina plans to say goodbye to the campus. El “Huevo” was already close to leaving office in March after a negative streak of eight games without a win, but due to the support of the leadership, he decided to continue.
Rondina took over at Arsenal in January 2018, could not avoid relegation but at the end of April 2019 managed to return the team to the top flight. Under the leadership of the “Egg”, the Viaducto team returned to play the Copa Sudamericana and qualified for the round of 16 where they were eliminated by Sporting Cristal de Peru in a tight series.
That coup started a new stage of bad results since of the last eight games he could only win one (1-0 against Argentinos Juniors in Sarandí). Sunday’s defeat in Vicente López (1-2) against a Platense weakened by coronavirus casualties precipitated the end of Rondina’s successful second cycle at the helm of Arsenal.
