Rohit Sharma to Remain Captain for England Test Series

The Indian cricket team is set to face England in a five-test series, just weeks after the conclusion of IPL 2025. Despite recent rumors of Rohit Sharma being removed as test captain, a new revelation suggests he will lead Team India in the upcoming series. Sharma’s captaincy was under scrutiny after the team suffered significant losses in test series against New Zealand and Australia.

Rohit Sharma will retain his position as captain, according to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the squad for the England series towards the end of IPL 2025. A source close to the matter stated, “There’s still plenty of time before the squad announcement. We’ll have a clearer picture after the knockout matches or shortly after.”

The test series against England is scheduled to begin on June 20, with the first match taking place in Leeds. The two teams will play a total of five tests, with subsequent matches in Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester, and The Oval. The Indian team previously toured England in 2021-2022, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

  • Second test: Birmingham (July 2-6)
