Olympiakos Thrashes Panathinaikos in Athens Derby Behind Ex-Benfica Stars

Rui Vitória’s Panathinaikos stumbled into the Greek championship playoffs in dismal form, falling 2-4 to arch-rivals Olympiakos. The Olympiakos squad, featuring Portuguese players Costinha, Gelson Martins, and Chiquinho in the starting lineup, and André Horta on the bench, dominated the match.

Roman Yaremchuk, a former Benfica player, scored twice for Olympiakos, with goals in the 1st and 51st minutes. Chiquinho, also a former Benfica player, added another goal in the 16th minute. Charalampos Kostaulas sealed the win with a goal in the 82nd minute.

Panathinaikos managed to score through Filip Mladenovic in the 25th minute and Fotis Ioannidis, a former Sporting target, in the 75th minute with a penalty kick.

This victory solidifies Olympiakos’ lead with 63 points. AEK, with 53 points, lost to PAOK, while Panathinaikos remains in third place with 50 points.
