Taiwan Mobile Considers Crypto Collaboration Despite Corruption Scandal
According to data from the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, a total of 1,335 corruption cases were dealt with after last year’s municipal elections. More than 700 individuals have been brought to justice for election-related corruption. They include former members of the Taiwanese executive, ex-central government officials, a mayor, a chairman of the municipal council, a deputy chairman and other high-ranking officials.
It was recently reported that Taiwan Mobile, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Taiwan, is in talks with several local crypto platforms. According to sources familiar with the matter, Taiwan Mobile is considering entering into a partnership agreement with at least one of these companies.
Conclusion
The increase in bribery and corruption via cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum in Taiwan highlights the growing complexity of anti-corruption measures. Digital currencies and e-payment platforms are expanding the arsenal of corruption methods, making oversight and regulation increasingly challenging.
The upcoming elections require increased vigilance and action from police and prosecutors to limit these digital forms of bribery. Despite these issues, interest in cryptocurrency continues to grow, as evidenced by possible collaborations between Taiwan Mobile and local crypto platforms. It is clear that as digital currencies become mainstream, governments must take proactive steps to tackle these new forms of corruption.
