ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the continuation of defense agreements with Russia and the purchase of more missile defense systems.
According to Turkish media reports, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday rejected US objections and pressure and announced the purchase of more missile defense systems from Russia.
“Turkey is free to make decisions about its defense system and we will not be under any pressure in this regard,” Erdogan said.
“We were not offered to buy American-made Peter Yacht missiles, we paid 1. 1.4 billion for a defense deal with the United States, but no F-35 fighter jets were provided,” he said. ۔

It should be noted that Turkey had signed a multi-billion dollar agreement with Russia five years ago to buy a state-of-the-art missile system, after which the US President imposed trade sanctions on Turkey in 2020 if it did not withdraw from the agreement.
The United States also excluded Turkey from the F-35 program and imposed sanctions on some Defense Department officials.
According to the report, the Russian-developed S400 missile system is capable of targeting the latest US warplane F-35, which is why the United States has reservations about this agreement.
