Record Travel: China’s Golden Week Sees 336 Million Trips First Day, Economy Boosted

Millions of people are on the move in China, celebrating a special time of year. The National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival have combined into a long holiday period. It’s often called “Golden Week,” and it brings a rush of excitement and travel. Families reunite, and many others head out to explore.

Reports confirmed a bustling start to the holidays. On the first day alone, over 336 million trips were made across the country. This number shows a 1.7% increase compared to last year. Officials believe this surge in travel and spending will give a significant boost to the nation’s economy.

Train stations are seeing huge crowds. China State Railway reported that about 120 million tickets were booked. These bookings cover travel between September 29 and October 10. The company’s 12306 platform handled this massive demand.

Regional train networks expect record-breaking numbers. The China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co. predicts about 4.26 million passengers on a specific Wednesday during the holiday. This would be a 9.5% increase from the same day last year. It means nearly 370,000 more travelers. The China Railway Beijing Bureau Group Co. also expects to serve 1.73 million passengers on that same Wednesday.

To keep everyone moving smoothly, transport officials are coordinating closely. They are connecting train services with local buses and subways. This helps manage the crowds and makes journeys safer. Highways are also packed, with forecasts of over 310 million trips on Wednesday.

Other ways of travel are also busy. Boat trips are expected to reach 1.22 million passengers, an 11.2% rise. Air travel will see about 2.48 million passengers, which is up 3.4%. Beijing Daxing International Airport anticipates its busiest day ever, handling up to 166,400 passengers. This sets a new record for the airport, six years after it first opened.

Bustling: Chinese travelers flock during National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays. Day one saw 336 million trips, up 1.7% from last year.
