The stage was set at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took on Mumbai Indians, and what a match it was. RCB batted first, amassing 221 runs.
Two players stood out – Virat Kohli with 67 runs and Rajat Patidar with 64 runs.
Mumbai Indians had a tough task. They needed 12 runs from 12 balls. Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir were batting.
But then Josh Hazlewood changed the game. He bowled the 19th over, taking Hardik’s wicket on the first ball. He gave away just 9 runs in that over.
The last over was bowled by Krunal Pandya. Mumbai needed 19 runs. Krunal took two wickets in the first two balls.
First, he got Sankar, then Deepak Chahar. Later, he took Naman Dhir’s wicket. RCB won by 12 runs.
RCB made history. They are the second team to beat Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in one season.
The first team to do this was Punjab Kings in 2012.
A Streak of Wins
RCB’s season started with a win against KKR at Eden Gardens. They won by 7 wickets.
Their second match was against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. RCB won by 50 runs.
After losing to Gujarat, they beat Mumbai Indians at Wankhede.
