Rakesh Roshan Recalls Receiving Warning About Rekha's Behavior On Set

Imagine a Bollywood star so radiant, her presence on screen can light up a room. That’s Rekha, a veteran actress who took the 1970s by storm with her stunning looks and mesmerizing dance moves. As her popularity soared, so did the rumors about her supposed unprofessionalism. Some claimed she’d show up late on set or leave early, while others whispered about her “attitude problem.” But one man, director Rakesh Roshan, saw a different side of Rekha.

Roshan had worked with Rekha on several films, including “Khubsoorat” and “Aurat.” When he decided to cast her in his 1988 film “Khoon Bhari Maang,” many warned him about her alleged antics. But Roshan didn’t buy into the gossip. Instead, he chose to address the concerns directly with Rekha. “I told her, ‘Listen, this is only my second film, and it’s a tough subject. It’s a female-centric film, and I’m taking a risk,'” Roshan recalled in an interview.

Rekha’s response? “I only trouble those who don’t pay me or don’t fulfill their commitments.” Roshan was taken aback by her straightforward reply. Years later, when he approached her with the script for “Koi… Mil Gaya,” Rekha proved to be just as perceptive. After hearing the story, she turned to Roshan and said, “You’re not showing me this script to get my feedback, but because you want me to play the mother’s role.” Roshan chuckled, “Rekhda is very clever.”

These anecdotes offer a glimpse into the real Rekhda – a talented actress who’s more than just a pretty face. Despite the rumors and controversies surrounding her, Rekhda has maintained a reputation for being a dedicated professional. Her collaborations with Roshan are a testament to her prowess as an actress and her ability to take on complex roles.

When it comes to Rekhda’s dedication to her craft, Roshan has nothing but praise. “She has a unique quality that’s rare in heroines – she looks different in every film,” he said. “I’ve worked with her as an actor in ‘Khubsoorat,’ ‘Aakraman,’ and ‘Aurat.’ When I approached her for ‘Khoon Bhari Maang,’ people warned me about her, but I didn’t listen.”

It’s clear that Rekhda has left a lasting impression on Roshan, both as a colleague and an artist. Her legacy continues to inspire new generations of actresses, and her iconic performances remain etched in the minds of Bollywood fans worldwide. Love her or criticize her, Rekhda is an undeniable talent who has made an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
