SA20 2025: South Africa’s fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has achieved a remarkable feat in the SA20 league. This historic moment came just a day after South Africa announced its team for the Champions Trophy on 13 January. The sixth match of the SA20 League was played between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals on 13 January. MI Cape Town scored 172 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs, with Reeza Hendricks scoring 59 runs in 37 balls and Van der Dussen scoring 43 runs in 33 balls. Dayan Galim took 3 wickets for Paarl Royals.
MI Cape Town Sets a Target of 173 Runs
Paarl Royals’ opening pair made a strong start while chasing MI Cape Town’s target of 172 runs. They scored 38 runs in the first 3 overs. However, Kagiso Rabada’s entry into the game changed the course of the match. He bowled a wicket maiden over in the fourth over, dismissing Paarl Royals opener Joe Root. Root scored 26 runs in 14 balls. The next 5 balls of the over were dot balls, making it a wicket maiden over for Rabada.
Rabada Creates History
Rabada’s second over was just as impressive. He took the wicket of opener Lhuan-Dre Pretorius on the first ball and did not give away a single run on the next 5 balls. This made him the first bowler in the world to bowl 2 consecutive maiden overs in the powerplay in the history of the SA20 league. No bowler had achieved this feat before in the league.
Rabada Enters Elite Club
Rabada’s achievement has propelled him into the list of bowlers who have bowled the most number of maiden overs in T20 cricket. He has now joined the club of bowlers who have bowled 10 or more maiden overs in T20 cricket, leaving behind legendary bowlers like R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. MI Cape Town restricted Paarl Royals to 139/9 runs in 20 overs, winning the match by 33 runs. Rabada and Rashid took 2 wickets each, while Jordan Linde took 3 wickets.
