Prithviraj Sukumaran is a household name in Malayalam cinema. But what’s surprising is that his journey to stardom wasn’t just about talent – it was also about who his dad was. In a recent interview, Prithviraj opened up about how his father, the late Sukumaran, paved the way for his acting career.
As the son of a famous actor, Prithviraj had a head start in the industry. His dad was a superstar in the 70s and 80s, and although he passed away in 1997, his legacy lived on. Prithviraj admitted that his surname got him his first film role. “I’m a complete nepotism product,” he said.
Now, Prithviraj is busy promoting his latest directorial venture, ‘L2: Empuraan’. The film is a follow-up to his 2019 blockbuster ‘Lucifer’, which starred Mohanlal in the lead role. This time around, Prithviraj has assembled a massive cast, featuring names from Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi cinema.
When asked about working with such a large ensemble, Prithviraj said, “You’re living in the easiest time to get into cinema, no matter what medium you want to work in. If you make a great Instagram reel today, you can grab attention. You can create a great podcast and people will start talking about you.”
His film, ‘L2: Empuraan’, is being touted as the biggest Malayalam film ever made in terms of scale and budget. Advance booking for the movie began on Friday, and it’s already breaking records. Within the first hour, the film sold over 100,000 tickets, the highest for any Indian film. By the end of Friday, ‘Empuraan’ had grossed ₹5 crore in advance booking alone. And that’s just in Kerala – advance booking hasn’t even started in other parts of the country yet. The film is set to release on March 27.
