Portuguese Athlete Mariana Machado Finishes 4th in European Road Athletics Championship 10K.

Mariana Machado clocked 31:30 minutes in the 10km European Athletics Road Championships, finishing fourth behind Italy’s Nadia Battocletti. The 24-year-old athlete from SC Braga shaved off 42 seconds from her personal best, which she had achieved earlier this year (32:12). This performance ranks her as the third-fastest Portuguese athlete of all time, behind Sara Moreira and Dulce Félix, who both recorded 31:25.

Other Portuguese Athletes’ Performances

Other Portuguese athletes also participated in the event. Laura Taborda from SC Braga finished 24th with a time of 32:44.

  • Ana Mafalda Ferreira (Sporting) – 61st, 34:07
  • Ana Marinho (São Salvador do Campo) – 64th, 34:16 (four seconds faster than her previous best)
  • Mónica Magalhães Silva (São Salvador do Campo) – 79th, 36:38

Italy’s team dominated the competition, with Portugal finishing seventh overall and 10th in the men’s category. French athlete Yann Schrub led the men’s race with a time of 27:37.

  • Hugo Rocha (Estreito) – 37th, 29:12 (eight seconds slower than José Carlos Pinto)

  • Pedro Amaro (Benfica) – 59th, 30:22

Solange Jesus from SC Braga finished sixth in the marathon with a time of 2:29:39, just two minutes shy of her personal best (2:27:30). She outperformed her teammate Esther Navarrete, who finished seventh with a time of 2:29:49.

Men’s Marathon Results

Rui Pinto (Sporting) secured eighth place in the men’s marathon with a time of 2:11:28, mere seconds away from his personal best (2:11:23). The race was won by Italy’s Iliass Aouani, who finished in 2:09:05. Portugal’s team finished fourth, thanks in part to the efforts of:

  • José Sousa (Macedo de Cavaleiros) – 21st, 2:18:20
  • Fábio Oliveira (Macedo de Cavaleiros) – 30th, 2:25:50
