Popular Folk Singer Maithili Thakur Joins BJP, Fuels Election Talk

Maithili Thakur, the acclaimed Indian folk and devotional singer, has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her induction into the political party took place on Tuesday in Patna.

Bihar BJP state unit president Dilip Jaiswal was present during Thakur’s formal entry into the party. This move immediately fueled widespread speculation about her potential candidacy in upcoming elections.

However, Thakur has clarified that she currently has no intention of contesting polls. Despite her statement, discussions about her political future continue within political circles.

Born on July 25, 2000, in the Madhubani district of Bihar, Thakur began her musical journey at the age of four. She received her initial training from her grandfather.

Her parents, Ramesh Thakur and Bharti Thakur, reside in Delhi and are involved in the education sector. By the age of ten, Maithili was already performing at various local events and devotional gatherings.

Today, she is widely known for promoting Bihar’s rich folk culture and devotional music alongside her brothers. Her performances often highlight the cultural heritage of the region.

Rumors of Thakur’s entry into politics began circulating after she was photographed meeting BJP Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai. These previous encounters sparked initial widespread discussion.

Analysts suggested her significant popularity in Bihar could profoundly influence women voters if she were to run for office. Her recent denial of electoral aspirations has added a layer of uncertainty to these predictions.
