A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday morning, claiming the life of a 49-year-old man. He was a police officer with the 9th Section of Montevideo, and at the time of the accident, he was traveling with his two 9-year-old children.
Details of the Accident
The accident occurred at kilometer 26 of Route 33, between Sauce and Montevideo. It appears that the driver of a Suzuki vehicle became confused and hit a gutter, resulting in the fatal crash. When emergency services arrived, the man was found unresponsive with no vital signs, despite wearing his seatbelt.
His wife, also a police officer, arrived at the scene. She’s a 45-year-old official at the Ministry of Interior, working at a police station that specializes in domestic violence cases in Montevideo’s Zone III. According to her, her husband and their children had set out to cut grass for their animals.
Investigation Underway
An emergency medical team confirmed the man’s death, while fortunately, the children did not suffer any injuries. Meanwhile, scientific police personnel began a thorough investigation, including a photographic and planimetric survey of the accident scene. The prosecutor of Toledo, Raquel Castellaro, has ordered the collection of camera footage and witness statements, as well as an autopsy to be performed on the victim.
