Polestar will become the first automaker to integrate Google Maps’ new live lane guidance system directly into the driver’s display of its Polestar 4 model, setting a new benchmark for in-car navigation.
This advanced feature aims to simplify navigation by offering real-time lane-specific instructions. It assists drivers in maintaining their path, especially on intricate highways or during peak traffic conditions.
The guidance system utilizes sophisticated Google Artificial Intelligence. This AI analyzes nearby elements like road markings and signage captured by the vehicle’s front camera.
Visual and auditory cues are provided, highlighting available lanes and the vehicle’s current position to facilitate early lane changes.
Sid Odedra, Polestar’s Head of UI/UX, emphasized the driver-centric nature of the innovation. He stated the feature “contributes to reducing stress behind the wheel and increasing safety.”
Odedra also highlighted the enduring partnership with Google, noting it has “enabled new functionalities” for customers over the past five years.
Andrew Foster, Google Maps Director of Product Management, echoed this sentiment. He described the Polestar 4’s integration as “setting a new benchmark for navigation in the automotive industry.”
Foster recalled that Polestar has been a “close partner since 2020,” when the Polestar 2 was the first car launched with an integrated Google system.
The new functionality will be housed directly within the 10.2-inch driver’s display of the Polestar 4.
Polestar stated this integration “represents another step” in its driver-centric strategy. It reinforces the brand’s commitment to regularly updating its models with innovative features via over-the-air updates.
The feature will launch in the coming months. It will initially be available for Polestar 4 models in the United States and Sweden.
Future expansion to additional markets is planned.
