Former NFL quarterback Mark Sánchez found his perfect match in actress Perry Mattfeld. The couple tied the knot in 2023, but their love story began years earlier, in 2017, all thanks to a mutual friend, Scotty McKnight. He even officiated their wedding, making their journey full circle.
At first, their relationship was mostly long-distance, as Mattfeld shared with The Knot in May 2023. However, the unexpected arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 changed everything. Living together during quarantine helped them realize they were truly meant to be. "That year was really the first time we said, ‘This is it. This is our life,’" Mattfeld recalled. Sánchez popped the question in May 2022 during a trip to Anguilla.
Mattfeld admitted to The Knot that the proposal caught her completely by surprise. She was never really fond of the word "fiancée," so thinking of Sánchez as her husband felt like a whole new level of commitment. She expressed excitement about their new chapter, looking forward to falling in love again as husband and wife, and officially uniting as a family.
The couple exchanged vows in Oaxaca, Mexico, in May 2023. This location held special meaning for both of them. "Both of us are of Mexican descent and we loved the idea of celebrating there," Mattfeld told People at the time. She added that they had visited Oaxaca years ago and instantly fell in love with it. They knew it was the ideal spot for their wedding and a great reason for friends and family to experience the city.
