It’s official. Disney has greenlit a ‘Percy Jackson’ series, which will be seen soon on Disney+. It has been the author of the books himself, Rick Riordan, who has announced the good news. The fiction has the preliminary title ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’, which aspires to be a version that seeks to adapt the five books that make up the saga for the small screen.
"The wait is over, demigods", declared the writer in a video shared by the Disney + portal itself. "I am delighted to be the first to tell you that Percy Jackson and the Olympians will really, truly and surely come to your screens.", he added. The franchise originally belonged to Fox, which released two films in theaters in 2010 and 2013.
Riordan himself will be part of the creative team, as confirmed by Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded TV, in an official statement. "With Rick Riordan, Jon Steinberg, and Dan Shotz at the helm of our creative team, we are deeply committed to creating a compelling series worthy of these heroic mythological characters.", he pointed.
Davis stressed the importance of making a correct adaptation of the literary series by "the millions of ‘Percy Jackson’ readers who will be waiting" to this version. With more than 45 million copies sold, the ‘Percy Jackson’ saga consists of five books, as well as five spin-offs. On the other hand, it has its own universe, ‘The Camp Half-Blood Chronicles’, which may lead Disney to be interested in exploring it in the future.
