There’s a quiet revolution brewing at Alverca. The club is undergoing a complete overhaul, from top to bottom. Pedro Alves, the General Director for Alverca SAD, pulled no punches. He openly admitted the team simply wasn’t ready for the top league. The old ways were not working, and a fresh start was desperately needed across every part of the organization.
Finding the right person to lead this transformation on the field was crucial. They placed their trust in Custódio Castro as head coach. Alves credits Castro as an outstanding partner in putting together the new team. The director shared a candid moment he had with the coach. He warned Castro that August would be the hardest month of his life. The one promise they offered him was unwavering patience as they navigated this challenging rebuild.
Alves laid out the club’s long-term vision. Alverca is now committed to being what he called a “selling club.” The financial reality is straightforward. The club relies heavily on its main investor. Revenue projections include €3.6 million from broadcast rights. Another €1.4 million comes from betting partnerships and the primary sponsor. This brings the total operating budget to just over €10 million.
To truly thrive and turn a profit, the strategy hinges on player sales. Alverca currently holds 70% of the rights for 22 players. This approach, Alves explained, represents the club’s future. He was direct about the investor’s terms: if the club loses money over the next two or three years, it will be sold. They have identified several players with strong potential for future sales. These include Baseya, Julián Martinez, Amorim, and Davy Gui. Alves encouraged everyone to simply watch Alverca play and decide for themselves. These insights were shared during the “Futebol Total” program on Canal 11.
