Arbidel González and Emma Carrasco achieve the minimum for Paris 2024

Yes, the Olympic minimums continue to drop at the Spanish Swimming Open, held in Palma de Mallorca. By a tiny margin of 0.12 seconds, Arbidel González secured an Olympic spot for Spain in the 200-meter butterfly event at the Paris 2024 Games with a time of 1:55.66.

González achieved his Olympic place with a lot of emotion after tying with Miguel Novoa in the 150-meter step. With a new championship record, González expressed his dedication to hard work, saying, “In the end what is trained comes out, and we have worked hard.”

Emma Carrasco narrowly missed the Olympic minimum time of 2:09.11 by a margin of 0.38 seconds in the 200-meter individual medley event. However, she established a new championship record with a time of 2:11.11.

“It was very difficult to get here, especially with the last two months of preparation being complicated. But in the end, I was able to achieve the mark,” said the 18-year-old Catalan swimmer enthusiastically.

Mireia Belmonte, who couldn’t achieve the Olympic minimum mark in the 200-meter individual medley, will now focus on the 400-meter freestyle event, to be held on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Arbidel González expressed his excitement about securing the 200-meter butterfly spot, citing his hard work and dedication as the reason behind his achievement.

In other news, the Spanish swimming sensation, Hugo González, broke the Spanish record in the 200-meter individual medley event with a new personal best time of 1:56.48. This is his third gold medal in these trials, and he has held this record since June 2021. González has been an absolute force to be reckoned with in the water, proclaiming himself European champion with an impressive performance.
