Camera phones have brought the ability to capture all the moments of life, anywhere and with ease.
Over time, camera functions have become indispensable for a smartphone, but not all consumer needs are met.
A bigger sensor gives better image quality, of course, but it requires thicker lenses, which doesn’t quite fit the idea of ultra-thin smartphones we like to have.
OPPO today announced an innovative solution to fix this problem: a retractable mechanism that gives the camera a focal length equivalent to 52mm (2X optical zoom) when expanded.
This allows you to host a SONY IMX766 Sensor of 1 / 1.56 ″, larger than normal for telephoto cameras, while supporting Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Auto Focus (AF), but returning to an aligned position with the rest of the camera module when the mechanism retracts.
To protect against falls, The OPPO’s retractable camera takes 0.6 seconds to fully retract, it’s also splash and dust resistant, making it an innovative yet practical solution for bringing a state-of-the-art telephoto lens to a smartphone.
