OpenAI’s Sora AI Video App Now Free on iOS in Asia

OpenAI has officially launched its AI-powered video creation application, Sora, in major Asian markets, offering users in Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan new tools for generating and sharing digital content.

The application became available for free download on the iOS App Store in Thailand starting October 30, 2025, without requiring an invite code during this initial phase. This expansion follows Sora’s debut in the United States and Canada in September 2025.

Sora enables users to create, remix, and share AI-generated videos within seconds by simply typing text prompts. The platform functions similarly to short-form video social applications, with the unique distinction that all content is created by artificial intelligence.

Users can also refine their videos in real-time by speaking to Sora, instructing the AI to add characters, adjust camera angles, or modify scene tones.

A key feature for the Asian rollout is full support for local languages, including Thai, allowing users to input video creation commands directly in their native tongue. Additionally, a “Cameos” feature permits verified users to integrate their own likeness into AI-generated videos, appearing in scenes or delivering dialogue.

OpenAI offers two usage tiers: a free tier that supports video creation up to 15 seconds per clip, and a Pro tier accessible via a web interface. Pro users can create videos up to 25 seconds and access advanced Storyboard tools for precise control over details like camera movement and lighting.

The company emphasizes that Sora’s development prioritizes safety and responsible technology. Features include both visible and invisible watermarks to identify AI-generated content, a Teen Safety Mode, and parental controls for monitoring and limiting usage.

Analysts suggest that Sora’s entry into Asia, particularly in markets with strong creator communities like Thailand, could position it as the “TikTok of the AI world.” OpenAI stated it is closely monitoring usage rates across the region to maintain system efficiency amid potentially surging demand.

The company indicated that an invite system might be reintroduced within 24-48 hours if GPU demand escalates significantly. This move marks a substantial step for OpenAI, extending its influence from language models like ChatGPT into the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven video content.
