An eighth engine per rider will be available to the MotoGP teams from the nineteenth round of the season, which this year is Australia’s. Of the seven that were planned for the factories without concessions, which are all except Aprilia before the start of the season, eight. The reason? Due to the high number of races on the calendar this year, 21, more than ever.

This has been decided by the GGPP Commission made up of Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna), Paul Duparc (FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA) and Biense Bierma (MSMA), in the presence of Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA and secretary of meeting) and Corrado Cecchinelli (Championship Technical Director). The meeting took place on May 8 and the technical change was made official today, during the first day of practice for the French GP.

The exact rule is that with less than 21 GGPP the factories without concessions will have a maximum of 7 engines per season and 9 those with concessions. If the season is of 21 or 22 appointments, the factories without concessions will have a maximum of 8 engines and 10 those with concessions, being able to use the eighth only from the 19th round.
