A significant knee injury has sidelined Oliveirense forward Miguel Monteiro for the remainder of the season, delaying his aspirations to establish himself in professional football.
The 22-year-old striker underwent surgery on Friday for a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee. He now faces a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Monteiro, who joined Oliveirense in the summer of 2024, is not expected to return to play this season. This setback directly impacts his goal of solidifying his presence in the professional leagues.
In his initial season with the club, Monteiro scored one goal and provided one assist across 16 matches. His playing time was previously limited by other physical ailments.
This season, he only featured in the first matchday. His last appearance on a game roster was in late August.
Before his move to Oliveirense, Monteiro played 12 games for Gil Vicente’s main team during the 2023/24 season. He contributed two assists and one goal in that tenure.
