Nuno Borges is gearing up for his singles debut on Wednesday, but his doubles outing didn’t go as planned. Teaming up with Marcos Giron at the Eastbourne tournament in the UK, the pair lost in the first round.
Their opponents, Joran Vliegen from Belgium and Ariel Behar from Uruguay, took the win in just over an hour, dominating the first two sets 6-2 and 6-4. This loss marked a rough start for the duo, who began their partnership on Monday.
Despite the setback, they’re already looking ahead to Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season and the only one played on grass.
Borges, ranked 37th globally and number one in his country, will face off against Britain’s Jack Pinnington Jones, ranked 282, in his first singles match in Eastbourne on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old is focused on making a strong showing in both singles and doubles as he prepares for the challenges of Wimbledon.
