The biggest fighting game competition in the world, the Evolution Championship Series, or EVO, is shaking things up again. It will soon have a new co-owner joining its ranks alongside Sony.
Sony recently announced it sold an ownership stake in EVO to NODWIN Gaming. This company manages esports events in India. Now, EVO has three co-owners: Sony, RTS, and NODWIN Gaming. RTS is a company that supports creators and runs events. Famous streamer Pokimane helped start RTS.

Sony first took a share of EVO in 2021, working with RTS. Since then, the competition has grown a lot. It no longer just happens in Las Vegas, its main location each year. EVO has also reached new places around the world. These include Japan, France in 2025, and Singapore in 2026.
RTS itself gets support from Qiddiya, a company from Saudi Arabia. Qiddiya helps run other major global fighting game events like the Esports World Cup. It also invests in many other entertainment and sports businesses.
Fans are wondering what this shared ownership means for EVO’s future. The website IGN pointed out that with Sony involved, many games at EVO had to use PlayStation 5 consoles. This might also be why Nintendo stopped letting Super Smash Bros. be part of the event. But with new companies joining, these rules could change. Only time will tell how this new team shapes the future of fighting game tournaments.
