Nissan Unveils Third-Generation LEAF: Up to 622 km Range, Advanced EV Tech

Nissan has introduced its redesigned third-generation LEAF electric vehicle, boasting an extended range and advanced technology, though initial deliveries are not anticipated until spring 2026.

This significant lead time follows the vehicle’s unveiling and initial test drives in Copenhagen, with pre-orders expected to commence before the end of the current year. No pricing details for the new model have been announced.

The new LEAF targets a range of up to 622 kilometers (approximately 386 miles) on a single charge under WLTP testing. This represents a substantial increase for the model that originally helped define the mass-market electric vehicle segment.

Clíodhna Lyons, Nissan’s Regional Vice President for Product and Services Planning across Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania, described the new LEAF as embodying the company’s “DNA: smart, elegant, stylish and ready for the next generation of EV drivers.” She added that the vehicle represents “exactly what our customers are looking for.”

The extended range is attributed to two battery options: a 52 kWh version offering over 440 km (273 miles) and a 75 kWh option reaching the maximum 622 km. Highway driving estimates include up to 330 km (205 miles) at 130 km/h (81 mph) or 430 km (267 miles) at 110 km/h (68 mph).

The LEAF supports 150 kW DC fast charging, capable of recovering up to 420 km (261 miles) of range in approximately 30 minutes. Its electric motor delivers 160 kW of power and 355 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 7.6 seconds, with an energy consumption rated at 13.8 kWh per 100 km.

The vehicle sports a dynamic crossover design, measuring 4,350 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,550 mm high. It boasts a drag coefficient of 0.25, with design elements such as flush door handles, optional 19-inch aero-style alloy wheels, and a dimmable panoramic roof enhancing its aerodynamic profile.

Inside, the LEAF features a digital cockpit with two 14.3-inch screens and 437 liters of cargo space, making it suitable for families. Integrated NissanConnect technology with Google services provides in-car route planning, hands-free control via Google Assistant, and access to the Google Play Store for applications.

The NissanConnect Services app allows remote battery checks, climate preparation, and trip planning.

Built on the CMF-EV modular platform, shared with the Nissan Ariya, the new LEAF includes advanced driver assistance features. These include e-Pedal Step for single-pedal driving and ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link for adaptive cruising.

Safety systems cover intelligent emergency braking, blind spot intervention, and lane keeping assist. The LEAF also incorporates Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, providing up to 3.6 kW to power external devices, and is prepared for future Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities.
