Nintendo Introduces Virtual Game Card System for Switch Consoles

Nintendo just dropped a bombshell in their latest Direct presentation. Alongside new games for the original Switch, which might be the last batch before the Switch 2 arrives, they unveiled a game-changing system. This innovation could mean the end of physical game cartridges and it’s not your run-of-the-mill digital download either.

Imagine a system where you buy a game, and it gets loaded onto a Virtual Game Card. You can then play it on any Switch console, as long as you’re connected – and you only need to do this once. This Virtual Game Card system is set to revolutionize digital game purchases.

But that’s not all. The Virtual Game Card also lets you share new games with family members. You can lend them a game for up to 14 days, after which it automatically returns to your library. This is a total game-changer. You can save money on games or try before you buy – and you get the full game, not just a demo.
