Hold onto your hats, entertainment fans, because the latest news from the celebrity world has a surprising twist. Nina Dobrev and Shaun White, who recently ended their engagement, are still keeping in touch. It seems the breakup isn’t a clean cut after all, which is pretty common for couples who shared so much.
Sources close to the ex-couple told Us Weekly that Nina, 36, and Shaun, 39, chat now and then. Parts of their lives are still quite connected. Right now, they are figuring out what to do with their shared house. The home is currently undergoing renovations, so they have big decisions to make together.
The source added that Dobrev and White are actively working through the final details of their home. This is still very fresh for both of them, so it’s a process.
Back on September 15, Us Weekly reported that the former “Vampire Diaries” star was heartbroken by the sudden end of her relationship with White. Before the split, there were no clear signs of trouble. In fact, on August 31, White and Dobrev were seen holding hands at a farmers market in Los Angeles. Just days before the news broke, they even posed together in bed.
Addressing the Rumors
Despite what you might have heard, sources told Us Weekly that infidelity was not the reason Nina and Shaun broke off their engagement. Also, they didn’t disagree about starting a family. A source confirmed to Us Weekly that “both wanted a family.” It wasn’t a situation where “one wanted it more than the other.”
Instead, a source clarified that the two simply grew apart after five years together. Their journey began in 2020. White popped the question with a five-carat ring from designer Lorraine Schwartz in October 2024 at The Golden Swan in New York.
“No drama here. No infidelity,” a source told Us Weekly earlier this month. “They stayed faithful throughout the relationship. At the end of the day, they are human beings like anyone. They simply grew apart and realized it would be better to continue as friends, not as husband and wife.”

Moving On (But Staying Connected)
Since going their separate ways, both stars have kept busy. Dobrev spent time with her family in Canada. Later, she met up with Keleigh and Miles Teller and other close friends in the South of France for a fancy vacation.
During her trip, Dobrev was photographed laughing and joking with Zac Efron on a private yacht. However, Us Weekly confirmed on Monday, September 22, that they are simply good friends.
“Nina and Zac are not dating and have been good friends for over a decade,” a source exclusively shared with Us Weekly. “Their friends always jokingly say they should date, but that’s not the case. They have supported each other through many life stages and have always been there for each other.”

Meanwhile, White headed to Beijing, China, on September 14. He was there to promote his winter sports tour, “The Snow League.” Then, on September 16, he appeared on NBC’s “Today” show. He talked about the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
White didn’t mention his breakup with Dobrev on “Today.” He did discuss what it will be like to attend the upcoming Olympics as a spectator. This will be a first for him since he retired after the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
“I’ll be all over the place, definitely supporting my friends competing and just enjoying the experience,” he shared on “Today.” “This will be my first Winter Olympics where I’m not competing, so there are a lot of feelings, but honestly, I’m looking forward to supporting them and experiencing it.”
