A sudden scare cut short a major press conference on Tuesday. Elisabeth Lenn, Sweden’s newly appointed Health Minister, collapsed right in front of the cameras. She had only been on the job for one day.
The incident happened during a joint announcement. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and other top officials were also present. Video footage quickly spread online, showing Ms. Lenn standing by a clear plastic podium. She then suddenly slumped, hitting her head on the podium’s corner before falling to the floor.
Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch acted fast, rushing to help. She gently turned Ms. Lenn onto her back. Several other politicians and reporters quickly gathered around to offer aid. The entire press conference was called off right away.
Ms. Lenn seemed to be unconscious for a short while. She was then helped out of the room to rest. She returned later, explaining her collapse was due to low blood sugar. It’s still unclear if she suffered any injuries from the fall itself.
Before this new role, Ms. Lenn served on the Gothenburg city council. She was named Health Minister just the day before the incident. This appointment came after Acko Ankarberg Johansson stepped down from the position. Ms. Johansson announced her resignation on Monday.
