Netflix Games Head Believes Young Gamers No Longer Want Consoles

The future of gaming isn’t about consoles, says Alain Tascan, the head of Netflix Games. In an interview with The Game Business, Tascan shared his vision for the industry. He thinks young gamers don’t dream of owning a console like older generations did.

Tascan, a self-proclaimed console gamer, believes times have changed. He’s not sure kids these days want a PS6 or any other console. Instead, they want to interact with screens – like their phones or tablets – which are portable and easy to use. They might even play games on their car’s screen during road trips.

For Tascan, it’s about having fun, not just about graphics. He thinks young players want to engage with digital screens, anywhere, anytime. “They want to interact with any digital screen, no matter what it is, where it is, or even in a car,” he says.

When it comes to console games, Tascan thinks they’re an old model. He believes focusing on high-quality graphics and controllers will hold the industry back. Netflix Games wants to make sure its platform appeals to young people, creating games that are fun and engaging.

The goal is to add value and engagement to the platform. As Tascan puts it, it’s about making games that are enjoyable, not just about having the best graphics.
