เนปาลตั้ง 3 รัฐมนตรีสายปฏิรูป-ต้านโกง ร่วมคณะรัฐมนตรีเฉพาะกาล

A fresh breeze of leadership is sweeping through Nepal. The nation’s interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, recently named three new cabinet ministers. These individuals are well-known for their commitment to reform and their strong stance against corruption. Their appointments aim to steer the country back to normal after a period of intense violence.

Nepal has been shaken by widespread anti-corruption protests. These demonstrations led to at least 72 deaths and left over 2,100 people injured. The unrest forced the previous Prime Minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, to step down. It also led to the dissolution of the country’s parliament. The nation has faced its worst civil disturbance in decades.

Sushila Karki, 73, took office as the interim Prime Minister just last week. She is a former Chief Justice and holds the distinction of being the first woman to lead the government. Her main task is to prepare the country for national elections on March 5. She also faces the huge job of rebuilding what was destroyed.

A Team for Change

The new cabinet members bring a wealth of experience. Rameshwar Prasad Khanal has been appointed as the Finance Minister. He previously served as the Finance Secretary and chaired a committee that suggested major economic changes. His role will be crucial in restoring the country’s financial health.

Kul Man Ghising takes on the Energy Minister portfolio. He earned recognition for his effective leadership at the state electricity authority. During his time there, he successfully tackled Nepal’s severe power shortages. Now, he faces a new set of challenges in a crucial sector.

Om Prakash Aryal is the new Home Minister. He is a respected human rights lawyer and an advisor to the Mayor of Kathmandu. Aryal has a history of fighting legal battles for public interest. His appointment signals a focus on law and order, as well as citizen rights.

Rebuilding a Fractured Nation

The recent protests were largely spearheaded by what’s being called ‘Gen Z’. This generation took to the streets to voice anger over deep-seated corruption. Their actions led to significant damage, including arson and destruction of property.

Many public buildings were targeted in the unrest. This includes the Prime Minister’s office, various ministry buildings, the Supreme Court, and the Parliament house. Homes of political leaders, such as President Ram Chandra Poudel and former PM Oli, were also attacked. Shopping malls, hotels, and other businesses suffered damage, though a clear cost estimate is not yet available. Prime Minister Karki has ordered officials to begin restoring these damaged public structures immediately. These appointments are a hopeful sign for a country eager to move past its recent turmoil.
