Nawazuddin Siddiqui Opens Up About Discrimination and Self-Doubt
National Award-winning actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has spoken candidly about the discrimination he faced in society due to his complexion and face. Despite being one of the most respected actors in the country, Nawazuddin has revealed that he has struggled with self-doubt and has been told he is not attractive.
‘I am the worst looking actor’
In an interview with News 18, Nawazuddin Siddiqui expressed his frustration with the way people perceive him. "I don’t know why some people hate our faces. Because our faces are like this – we are so ugly! We also feel the same when we look at ourselves in the mirror. We also say to ourselves, ‘Why did you come to the film industry with such an ugly face?’"
No Complaints with the Film Industry
However, Nawazuddin has also thanked the film industry for giving him numerous opportunities. "I have no complaints with the film industry. I want to thank all the directors who have given me so many different roles. If you have even a little talent, the industry gives you a lot. There is discrimination in society, not in the industry."
Gangs of Wasseypur Still Gets Love
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who won hearts with his performance in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, still receives immense love for the film. He recalled how people would tell him they had seen the film multiple times, and he initially thought they were joking. "Five months after the release of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, wherever I went, people would tell me ‘Sir, I have seen the film 25-30 times’. I thought they were all joking and making fun of me. For 3-4 years, I thought all this was a lie. I thought people were making fun of me – they were saying this because I was in front of them. Much later, I started believing that the film has become very big and people have seen it many times."
