Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has said that the inclusion of Tim Paine in the Ashes series XI against England, who resigned as captain after sending an objectionable message to a colleague, will not distract the hosts.

Lyon’s reaction came after comments from former captain Ricky Ponting that Paine’s inclusion in the squad could divert players’ attention as the ongoing discussion about him is not over yet.

Paine had resigned as Australia’s test captain last week after these messages sent in 2017 were made public. “I don’t think it’s distracting anyone,” Leon told reporters. After all, we are all professional players and we know what to do and how to overcome it.

The 34-year-old endorsed Penn and called him the best goalkeeper in the world. Lyon said: “The selectors have been saying they will pick the best XI to play and in my opinion Tim Paine is the best goalkeeper in the world.” I want him on the team. It may be selfish as a bowler, but I want the best wicketkeeper to be behind the wicket and in my opinion that’s Tim Paine.
