Uncertain Umpiring in Domestic Cricket
The recent match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir in the Elite Group A of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has brought attention to the standards of umpiring in domestic cricket. A notable incident occurred when Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed and then recalled to the field after the third umpire confirmed a no-ball by Jammu and Kashmir bowler Omar Nazir.
Incident Details
The incident took place during the second day’s game when Rahane was initially given out after edging a short ball from Nazir to the wicketkeeper. However, the third umpire intervened and confirmed that Nazir had bowled a no-ball, prompting the on-field umpires to recall Rahane from the pavilion. This decision was made approximately five minutes after Rahane had already left the field, causing some confusion for the player.
